The smallest state in Mexico, Tlaxcala is centrally located in the altiplano region and is bordered by Puebla, Hidalgo and Mexico State. With a population of 765,000 its main cities are the eponymous capital Tlaxcala with its colonial heritage and Cacaxtla which are home to archaeological sites of historical importance. The eastern part of the country features an expanse of the Sierra Madre mountain range.
