The centrally located Mexican state of Zacatecas has a population 1,280,000. Bordering the states of Durango and San Luis Potosi, its main cities are the capital, Zacatecas, and Fresnillo. Originally known for the mines of it extensive silver deposits, the city, originally called Minas de los Zacatecas, is known to have played an important role in the outcome of the Mexican Revolution and features a rich collection of important archaeological sites.
